Please recognize our following general information for billing of our treatment costs

You are in our hospital due to an unplanned emergency treatment?

Inpatient treatment

If you are from a member state of the European Community, please take your valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and your passport with you. Alternatively we accept a provisory certificate replacing the missing EHIC valid from the first day of treatment. The billing will be done with help of a German Health Insurance. Therefore we need your signature on the patient declaration European Health Insurance. You confirm with it, that you are an Emergency Case and have not travelled to German for a planned treatment. For each calendar day you have to pay an additional charge of 10 € by yourself.

Patients from Non-EU-member states and patients without an insurance have to pay the treatment costs themselves. For inpatient treatments we demand a prepaying for the estimated costs.

To be permitted to send medical information to your insurance we need your signature for release of confidential medical data.

Patient treatments

If you don’t have a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you, you have to pay the treatment costs in cash or with credit card. We do not contact travel-insurances or other insurance agencies outside Europe in these cases.

You are for planned treatment in our hospital?

In order to be able to suggest a treatment option our physicians need your detailed medical documentation by mail, fax or e-mail (pdf) in advance. Your documentation will be forwarded to the responsible clinic. After a few days you will receive our statement and our estimation of the costs. For appointments and planning of treatment as well as for additional medical questions our hospital and our physician will contact you.

In order to make a confirmed appointment with us please send us:

  • In member states of the EU your form S2 /E112 with a validity date of your home insurance issued to the Städtisches Klinikum Karlsruhe.
  • An absorption of costs of an insurance located outside of Germany for the treatment in the Städtisches Klinikum Karlsruhe.
  • An advance payment of the estimated costs

You can choose by inpatient treatments between normal treatment (billing of our basic costs) or additional costs for senior consultant treatment and double or single bedroom. The selectable additional options are not always covered by your insurance.

Please note, that without advance payment or valid insurance coverage we cannot start your treatment.

If you need a confirmation for your visa, or for your Embassy from our hospital we need your passport details (surname, prename, date of birth, passport number, if necessary the same for an accompanying person) in addition.

Please tell us at the beginning of treatment your complete home address and your email address for billing reasons. After finishing the treatment you will receive our complete billing within 4 weeks via mail or email. The bill will be in German; translating is unfortunately not possible. If there is an overpaying we will transfer the money which was received in excess to the previous given bank details (name and address of your bank, IBAN and Big-Swift-Code).

Sometimes we need for planned inpatient treatments in before a patient microbiological examination searching for transfered germ settlement of skin and mucous membranes. During this period (about 4 days) it’s not possible to stay in our hospital.

Please note

We emphasize that we have no cooperation contracts with patient's mediation societies and pay no commission fees.

Release of medical confidentiality and Patient’s consent for communication by email

To send medical details and billings to our insurance and your relatives/contact persons we need your signature on the release of medical confidentialy. 

By transmission via email there is no protection against unauthoized access, inspection and manipulation of data. If you wish we will send your documents and billings only posted, by fax or with coded/encrypted email.
